  • They recycle plastic be either hitting it with a shitload of heat/pressure and turning it in an oil (that doesn’t make a good plastic) or by chopping it up, heating it up with a bunch of dye and forming/forcing it into lawn furniture.

HDPE, ABS, PLA are soft and melt nice, they kinda fall apart easily at temp. They discolor, but they stay structurally consistent. PET/E doesn’t turn into chewing gum when it gets hot, you can stretch it into fibers and they kinda stick together when you need them. Even using it as 3d filliment is hit or miss consistency+wise.

  • Soda bottles are horrible candidates for recycled plastic. They need to hold up to a decent amount of pressure and then need to last under those conditions for like 6 months.

You can make a have decent textile out of it. You can make a subpar 3D printing filament out of it.

I think the best use I’ve seen is to use it as an additive to plastic decking. It’s one of the uses where the color and texture changing won’t be noticed.

A lot of other plastics are a hell of a lot easier to reuse in other situations, But for pressure you can’t beat PET and a PETE for cost.

that negative feelings come from places where my mental image of the world conflicts with objective reality.

Used to work in the backend of insurance.

It’s ‘possible’ to double bill for a good reason, but it’s an outlier of a situation.

If you have a shitty insurance company, they’ll stretch money in bad times by only paying places out after multiple requests. They also get trained that if an insurance company drags their feet, the second time they’re billed, they get paid, so they always do it.

Any insurance company worth its salt will catch double billing.

Now, all that said, a LOT of providers double bill and get paid multiple times.

    It’s usually assholes all-the-way down.

No, things are far worse, every day it’s a new low at the moment, to try to argue otherwise is simply not in good faith. Shit, didn’t they haul off some parents from a car yesterday and leave the kids int he car unsupervised?

I hope they know, that when this shit is all over “I was just following orders” will NOT keep them from prison.

  • Buying a nas is easy. Most of them support backups. The good ones support containers which takes some of the pain out of what you’re working with.

But the nas are fairly expensive, They don’t have as long of a lifespan as you would expect. And then you’re also beholden to the company for updates, and policy changes. (Synology is currently on their way to requiring you to use their own branded drives, you didn’t used to have to do that but they’re slowly taking away features)

Only you can decide what makes sense to you. Hey Naz is an easy, slick solution where you’re putting the care and ability for long-term access in someone else’s hands. Building your own system even with something like unrade is still a hell of a lot of work. But then you get to decide how everything works.

Do what feels right for you.
