Data is Beautiful@mander.xyz•Mentions of the word "fascism" and its derivatives in Pravda, the main Soviet newspaper, from 1938 to 1942English
2·3 months agoLLMs can’t deal with highly reflective languages at the moment. In English or Chinese you can assign tokens to entire words without having to account for word morphology (which is also why models fail at counting letters in words) but it falls apart quickly in Polish or Russian. The way models like ChatGPT work now is that they do their „reasoning” in English first and translate back to the query language at the end.
Suggestion: in case of breaking API changes maintain old endpoints for a bit? This caught me off guard as a Voyager user this morning because versioning suggests that Piefed is stable (1.x) and that this was a minor release (x.0 -> x.2), yet it broke down completely.

3·5 months agoSaudi Arabia has plenty of soft and hard power too. Possibly more so than UK. I think we’re getting overly dramatic. UK doesn’t have enough pull to start extraditing thousands of people for not complying with their weirdo laws.

6·5 months agoNo idea but in Europe copyright law doesn’t seem to be enforced as much against little guys but taxman will come for everyone. That YouTuber seems to be a grifter, collecting money for his defense while also making money off a Telegram shop. He knew he could make things up and people (and „journalists”!) would fall for it because Nintendo bad.

12·5 months agoI’m confused, why are non-UK instances banning UK users? Are their admins located in the UK? Is anyone afraid of being extradited to UK because of their local laws? Do you block Saudi Arabia too because you can’t guarantee blasphemy laws are going to be upholded?

Television@piefed.social•‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ English-Language Adaptation In Works At Netflix From Leila Gerstein & Jerry Bruckheimer TV
4·5 months agoThe issue with current autistic leads in series like Good Doctor or Extraordinary Attorney Woo is that they are almost level 3 (aka profound autism) while also being savants which doesn’t really represent much of autistic people (and savants are even less). I don’t want to marginalise those people but they’re quite overrepresented in media about autism while also being less than 10% of all autistic people and that leads to regular people being really confused as to what autism is.
I think this is what’s behind something that’s almost a meme by now among autistic people - when you tell someone you’re autistic without flapping your hands and without difficulty in stringing a coherent sentence you’re going to be replied with „but you don’t look autistic”. This also leads to many people going undiagnosed and without support, sometimes for their entire lives.

Television@piefed.social•‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ English-Language Adaptation In Works At Netflix From Leila Gerstein & Jerry Bruckheimer TV
4·5 months agoThe show is quite fun even if uneven but it suffers from the usual autism being off the charts on stereotypical traits without any nuance. I wonder if we’ll ever see an accurate representation of autism on TV, other than The Rehearsal, that is.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Ori studio's focus on PS5 over Xbox for next game isn't a "shakedown" but "common f*cking sense", says CEOEnglish
4·5 months agoThis thing goes into my living room and PS5 looks are just offensive to me. I waited to see if Sony would come to their senses with Slim or Pro but I guess Sony is back to being Sony when they don’t have to try. I despise monopolies so I go with the underdog when I can.
Both platforms run all modern games and there’s very little exclusives on both. Performance wise they’re the same and automatic VRR on everything is awesome. XSX was significantly cheaper at the time too and that’s before taking into account how much value GamePass provides. If Microsoft wasn’t exiting the market I’d say it’s a better choice today too.

6·5 months agoI think MS could surpass EA as a biggest publisher after they bought ActiBlizz, you could extract couple of game companies out of them. At this point I’m wondering why they haven’t sold it to Oracle or Tencent just to get more coal for their AI money pits.

15·5 months agoIt’s the budget pick. Series S sells multiples of Series X and GamePass is cheap. We live in the age of overabundance of all kinds of media so there’s is crapload of games, and exclusive situation doesn’t look that bad compared to PS5, mostly because PS5 is bad too. I went with XSX because of the looks but that was before Microsoft went insane.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Nintendo can disable your Switch 2 for piracy in the U.S., but not in Europe, as confirmed by its EULAEnglish
2·5 months agoFrom Nintendo’s point of view hacked device is a hacked device. Whether you use it to pirate or hack in multiplayer, they don’t really care, you’re not supposed to do either and they take that device off their network. I usually pay for games because second hand market exists but I also won’t condemn piracy because some can’t afford even that. It’s the expectation that a company like Nintendo has to take it under the guise of consumer protection that I find funny, bad political takes too.

7·5 months agoThey are denying you access to the service rather than your hardware. I prefer how Nintendo goes about it (locking hacked device) compared to Valve or Sony where your entire game library gets locked. As someone with a banned Switch I think that’s fair, I can pirate things on it anyway. Nobody said piracy has to be easy and I enjoy a bit of cat and mouse.

I’m glad money is of no concern for you but one device costs twice as much as the other :)
